HSE Consultation on revisions to CDM Regulations 2007

Posted on

The consultation on the proposals to revise the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2007 (CDM Regulations) is now open.

The launch on 31st March will be followed by a 10 week consultation period during which time the construction industry can respond to the proposals.

The proposals for new CDM Regulations will bring about the following key changes:

  • replacement of the CDM co-ordinator role with a principal designer role within the project team;
  • introducing a duty on information, instruction, training and supervision to replace the duty to assess competence;
  • removal of the domestic client exemption and transfer of these limited duties to the contractor/designer; and
  • replacement of the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) with tailored guidance.

HSE stresses that their plans to consult are not set in stone: - they want to hear from those affected to help shape the final regulations.

To access the consultation documents go to: http://www.hse.gov.uk/consult/condocs/cd261.htm

The consultation opened on 31 March 2014 and closes on 6 June 2014.

It is expected that the new Regulations will come into force in April 2015.
